Very soon, InsyX Piranha will be re-opening the Aqua Lounge in a brand new location, with a brand new feel. The club, spacious and free of dance pad debris is a joy to dance in. Located high above "The Purfect Kitty Club", the club features an outdoor barbecue area and roomy dancefloor.
InsyX has been a dj for many clubs for quite some time. His list of venues includes his own home club, Aqua, as well as Alter Ego, V Lounge, and others. The opening is scheduled for Friday, June 9th, 5:00 pm/sl.
Aqua was recently donated land on the sim, InsyX says. "It has always been part of our plan to move from overtop Cockwood Manor; I get my living room back!"
What I found so intense about this build was the artistic effort that went into its construction. InsyX used the same blue textures as in previous Aqua incarnations, but when one pans up, or around, there is a symetry that surpases the other builds. Take for example the use of light while panning down into the roof.
Although this build could be considered Avatarian Architecture because of its personal touch, one must step beyond that to look at the functionality of the build, the artistic energy that is left upon viewing the club, as well as the impact it leaves on its patrons. No doubt this functional build will become a fixture in the Second Architecture archives.

Second Architecture & The Hangflame Plaza
You may notice two things about the Hangflame Plaza: first, it's not a custom build. The buildings are a package you can purchase and use to make your own space. I've seen other areas that have utilized this type of build in the last few days. Second, the mall is bustling with people. There are few stores not rented, and owner, JohnnyD Posthorn, has placed several vending booths in the plaza to accomodate more sellers.
The mall itself houses an art gallery, two freebie stores (great for noobies), several clothing stores, a car dealer, and several unique boutiques offering everything from exotic asian art, furniture, to custom feather masks.
So what makes this Second Architecture? For starters, the build utilizes the space available for maximum efficiency while taking into account the other areas in the sim. Next door to the mall is the Friendship Garden, a custom build by Merryman Montegrene designed to be a meeting place for people as well as a place of contemplation and meditation. JohnnyD has made access to the garden available through a secluded alley in the plaza space.
Secondly, the plaza is easy to navigate through. There are no difficult passages, the traffic can flow evenly around in a circle, visiting shop by shop if they so wish. The avatar is drawn down, rather than up and out to the sim outside.
There is however one view that must be seen, the giant house in the neighbouring sim makes you feel like an ant, good for a chuckle.
Finally, the mall is aesthetically pleasing: there aren't any sharp colours or textures out of place; JohnnyD has used the tools provided in the building kit to create a custom "space" for himself and his business without creating an eyesoar. You may want to check out his other gallery, a custom build called "Photosynthesis". This build also conforms to Second Architectural ideals and principles.

We're beginning to develop pre-fab homes for our store in Hangflame Ridge, and as they become available, we'll put them up for sale. Also, various items of furniture will also be available.
Aside from that, what the heck is this!?
The Architect is the publication of the Second Architecture Society. We are a group of individuals that include club owners, designers, artists, writers, dj's, musicians, builders, scripters; our goal is to promote "emotional bandwidth" by minimizing "spiritual lag". We advocate beauty and responsible building as part of the Second Life experience. Too often sims have become cluttered chaotic scrambles, what we term as "Avatarian Architecture". "Second Architecture" tries to take into consideration the environment and create builds that foster serenity. We advocate responsible advertising practices and responsible traffic earning.
Future postings will examine in greater detail the concepts of Avatarian and Second Architecture, as well as highlighting builds that reflect both concepts. We will also be providing articles about the aesthetics of Second Architecture.
It is my sincere hope that this will not become a dry, flakey read, but rather will stimulate discussion and open the mind to new ideas of building in Second Life.
